People often ask, "How did you become a tour guide?" That's a reasonable question and one answered with the simple words, "I was a very spooky child…" It's not that I meant to be, but I was certainly the little boy who would skip Sunday school to hang out behind the church in the old cemetery.
There were graves from the earliest days of the area's colonization: Women from the 1830s who were buried with their children with whom they had died trying to give birth. Cowboys who had spent their lives trying to make a fortune out of the land. Soldiers who had fought for the losing side of a horrific war. They were my ancestors and I always wanted to speak for them and to tell their stories.
That's why I do what I do. The stories I tell are of real people and real events. They're who and what made New Orleans what it is.
