Ghosts, legends, and true crime – our Dark History Tour is our most popular tour! Join us on a walk through the streets of the Old French Quarter and hear the history of our city through the stories of its restless dead, the old legends, horrifying great disasters, and still unsolved murders.
The stories you will hear on our Dark History Tour are the ones that define our city and her people. What’s most unsettling about the things you’ll learn? It all really happened! Our Dark History Tour is equal parts history, entertainment and horror.
After departing from Pirate’s Alley, our Dark History Tour begins with a stop at St. Louis Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in the United States, in the heart of the French Quarter. From there, we will journey through the streets to Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar (where we will stop mid-tour for a break), the Cabildo, Madame John’s Legacy and other French Quarter landmarks. You will hear stories about the Spanish occupation of New Orleans, 19th Century ghosts and more.
By the time our Dark History Tour concludes in Jackson Square, you will see The Crescent City in a new light. Experience the rich, dark history of New Orleans while standing in the same spots it took place! If you’re like us, these stories will make you respect and revere our city even more than ever!

Each and every Jonathan Weiss tour strives to entertain, educate and leave you wanting more of New Orleans and her French Quarter. Our Dark History Tour begins in the French Quarter and our guides will navigate the streets while telling you the stories that make our city great. We will stand in the exact spots where history happened while we discuss the dark stories of New Orleans.
You will be intrigued, thrilled and maybe even uncomfortable with some of the chronicles of the Crescent City. Our guides’ passion and collective knowledge of the city brings an expertise to each of our tours; we encourage you to ask questions and become as excited about New Orleans history as we are! We are first and foremost historians of this great city and are proud to tell you about her saints, sinners, triumphs and travesties.
New Orleans is an open container city, meaning you can bring your drinks along for the entirety of the Dark History Tour! We suggest you bring a camera and snap photos along the way–you never know who or what might make an appearance! Don’t forget to bring plenty of curiosity, an open mind and to wear comfortable shoes!
We can’t wait to share our love of The Big Easy with you! See you for your Dark History Tour in the Quarter…
